Year 6 girls win MaccabiGB Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 9th November, following all-night rain and a blustery wet morning, it was agreed the Year 6 MaccabiGB Jewish Primary Schools' Netball tournament would still take place and we took a squad of 7 girls to Immanuel College where we entered one team, placed into a group of 5 other schools, playing each of them once. There were 13 other schools, entering 22 teams in total.

Our Year 6 team consisted of five "Year 6" girls and two "Year 5" cup winning girls from last weeks tournament and with our squad of girls gaining in confidence, became stronger each game, winning 4 games and drawing 1, scoring an amazing 14 goals, with a special mention to our super goal scorer, Leah J, who scored 13 of our goals. The squad, managed by Mr Thorne, took turns in rotating their positions, culminating in them winning 2 of their matches with a 5-0 score-line, another 3-0 and 1-0, with a 0-0 draw as well, but keeping a clean sheet with no goals conceded.

The best part of the afternoon was hearing "and for the second week in a row, the winners are MMK", and following on from last week’s Year 5 tournament win, the squad lined up to receive their trophy and medals and their fully deserved appreciation from those watching.

Thank you to the parents who offered transport and to cheer the girls on, which all happens again in February 2017 when MMK defend their titles and thanks to Mrs Benjamin for her administrative help.

Finally, a huge thank you goes to Natalie Kenton, who runs our Netball Club, whose squad selection was spot on, 2 weeks in a row.

Year 6 players:  Leah J, Eva M, Sammi S, Ella W and Jodie E

Year 5 players:  India H and Hannah S

A big thank you to Mr Thorne for all his hard working in training, encouraging and supporting the children.
